MR Credit 6

Rapidly Renewable Materials
1 point

Intent
Reduce the use and depletion of finite raw materials and long-cycle renewable materials by replacing them with rapidly renewable materials.

Requirements
Use rapidly renewable construction and Division 12 (Furniture and Furnishings) materials and products, made from plants that are typically harvested within a 10-year or shorter cycle, for 5% of the total value ($) of all materials and products used in the project

Submittals
Provide the LEED-CI Letter Template, signed by the architect, interior designer, owner or other
responsible party, declaring that the credit requirements have been met. Include calculations
demonstrating that the project incorporates the required percentage of rapidly renewable products. Show their cost and percentage of rapidly renewable components, and the total cost of all materials for the project.

Potential Technologies & Strategies
Establish a project goal for rapidly renewable materials and identify materials and suppliers that can achieve this goal. Consider materials such as bamboo flooring, wool carpets, straw board, cotton batt insulation, linoleum flooring, poplar OSB, sunflower seed board, wheatgrass cabinetry and others. During construction, ensure that the specified rapidly renewable materials are installed.

TUOHY can provide qualifying alternate rapidly renewable core materials for all veneered panels used. There will be a slight increase in the cost of this material.
