What We Do
At Tuohy Furniture, we combine craft and automation to create personalized wood furniture for private and open offices, meeting and collaboration spaces, and hospitality environments.
Led by third generation family members, Dan and Michael Tuohy, we are carrying on the legacy of our founder, Joseph Tuohy, by handcrafting furniture while continually improving and investing in manufacturing to meet today’s environmental and design standards.
We own our own veneer panel company and specialize in custom veneers, as well as many standard options. Whether your project requires walnut, oak, maple, black limba, birdseye maple, or figured mozambique, we can bring your vision to life in nearly any type of veneer.
Finding the Perfect Match
The Tuohy team hand-selects the finest veneers for our products. We use only book-matched veneer for all plain-slice cuts and slip-matched veneers for all quarter-sawn cuts. This ensures balanced color, a uniform appearance, and consistent grain and color.
We sequentially suite-match the highest-quality veneers and tag them for each office or workstation, ensuring all furnishings match across the entire office landscape.
Creating Custom Veneers
Our partner company, Saunders Wood Specialties, lays up each panel for our furniture, giving us the freedom and quality control to select the best veneers for each project.
We hand-spray self-sealing, water-reducible acrylic wood finish and apply heat between each coat to ensure full cure. To allow designers complete color freedom, we’ve also built stain matching into our manufacturing process.
Ensuring Quality Construction
At Tuohy, we practice specific techniques that allow for customization and ensure superior quality. Parametric manufacturing enables us to resize each component in terms of width, depth, and height, allowing for custom applications and a bespoke aesthetic.
Drawer construction features a solid wood laminated English dovetail joinery drawer with a four-sided dado bottom for enhanced bottom loading and overall durability. All doors and most drawers are equipped with soft-close mechanisms.
Exceeding BIFMA standards, we glue and frame all mitered cabinetry. Non-mitered cases are milled, sanded, and finished before assembly using a precision assembly system (PAS). This approach is often more durable than wooden dowel construction and ensures precise component alignment during the assembly process.
Paying Attention to Detail
We sand products on all six sides for a seamless finish, even on the bottom of cabinets. We also offer a wide variety of edge details, hardware pulls, wood veneers, and custom finishes as part of the standard manufacturing process. You can also specify tops, up to five inches thick, for most products in veneer, solid surface, stone, granite, glass, and more.
From a high-end executive office to an entire floorplate, we bring quality and craft to environments that help people feel more productive. Ready to talk about your next project? Connect with us at info@tuohyfurniture.com.
